questions and answers
pregnancy??? one of my freinds told me that her sister had a baby and she had to get the baby examined and the doctor had to stick his arm all the way to his elbow to see where the head is...has this ever happened to you moms? shes 6'3"...but do they really stick up their whole hand to feel where the baby is? why cant they do an ultrasound?

lovebug123 replied: "OMG, no!!"

lots_of_laughs replied: "Is your friends sister a cow? No way up to the elbow."

margarita replied: "What does this question have to do with Cooking & Recipes??"

nicole31195 replied: "No, they usually just push on your belly to make sure the baby isn't breeched. If she was very far along, he or she may have been stripping her membranes though"

Steve G replied: "I had nothing to do with it, I was cooking at the time,Honest"

Pregnancy>? This is for a HEALTH class project! I hate that subject! Please answer the following question: what did you experience while going through pregnancy? 2. How old were you? when will i ever use this?!

electa g replied: "My first pregnancy was at 16 .It was a extremely difficult pregnancy with alot of complications.I started dilating at 5 months along and went into labor at 7 months. My baby was born at a good birth weight(6 lbs) She was in a newborn I.C.U. for 4 weeks and then shipped back to my local hospital for two more weeks.Teenage pregnancy was not fun and I do not recommend trying it.My daughter is 10 years old and we are doing great today.I did manage to finish high school, go to college and land a great job."

jamesarmywifey replied: "lol don't you HATE health class. haha i went through it in high school so..i understand. lets see. im 36 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I went through morning sickness that just consisted of nausea instead of puking for the first 2 months of being pregnant. As i got farther in pregnancy i went into preterm labor 3 times where they gave me lots and lots of fluids and the labor finally stopped. I have gotten swelling now just this week. O..and im 19....i was 18 when i got pregnant!!! Good luck with your project. haha...i know school sucks but its great when its finally over!!!"

Courtney B replied: "I was 16. I experienced alot of different things, for one my breasts were swollen and they hurt, two I was very sick(morning sickness) for the first 4 months, I was tired alot, and alot of anxiety about weather i could be a mom or not and about the child birth hope this helps."

cookie replied: "you experence something that cannot be put into words....that is why people ask.....how does one describe the feeling of having your offspring growing inside you?.....good luck."

marriedsoon replied: "I was 22 when i got pregnant. I experienced morning sickness, nausea, very tired, couldnt get comfortable, hungry all the time, mood swings, worrying, stressing, picking out baby names, buying maternity clothes, random people in grocery stores coming up and talking to you, people rubbing your belly, gaining 65 pounds. And you will use all of this when you get pregnant someday. Those are just a few things you go through. Labor is a totally different experience and you have to go through that while you are pregnant. Braxton hicks contractions, breathing techniques, lamazze classes, parenting classes, breastfeeding classes, leaking breasts, constipation, i could go on and on with everything you go through. Good luck. With all of these i mentioned, you will be sure to get a "A""

Megan C replied: "I have had a great planned pregnancy! Age: 29yrs (28 when husband/I found out) NO Morning Sickness NO Headaches Little Heartburn Sore breasts (3weeks-9weeks & again @ 28weeks +) Hemmeroids (from 8weeks-21weeks) Leaking Breasts (entire pregnancy) First Baby Flutters (9weeks & 11weeks) First Actual Kicks (17weeks +) Braxton Hicks Contractions (27weeks +) Swelling (27weeks +) Weight Gain (25lbs +) Hope This Helps You! Good Luck in Class!"

when during pregnancy do you start to get heavy white discharge? I want to know if this sounds like pregnancy, it is a week after ovulation i have heavy white discharge and a little cramping. I've also been a little moody. I don't know if white discharge is a big sign of pregnancy or not.

charm replied: "yes for some people"

nate_dra1 replied: "It could be a sign that you are pregnant or just that you are about to start your period, but pregnancy symptoms don't show up until after implantation which usually takes 7 to 10 days so you wouldn't get symptoms till after you miss your period."

How soon during pregnancy do you start getting yeast infections? How soon during pregnancy do you start getting yeast infections? It been 12 days since i had intercourse so its not quite time to test yet but Im scared that i got pregnant. I have no signs but just a feeling. Is there any sign i can look for to detect pregnancy this early. I know a yeast infection is no sign but its just weird that I have one.

One-Hot-Mama<3 replied: "well u have to wait at least 5 days before you missed period.. some signs are darkening of the nipples, increased urination, sensitive breasts, ect however you dont usually notice any signs at all so early. I felt constipated and had implantation bleeding right away with my son ! A yeast infection can occur at anytime and doesnt ness. have anything to do with pregnancy, so i wouldnt connect the 2 unless you are actively TTC and have an increase in BBT temp or"

$h!tBird replied: "It is possible but I don't think that is a medical symptom of pregnancy.. that was the first thing I had with my first child.. about 2 weeks before i even knew I was pregnant. and then again in my second month. You usually feel breast tenderness in the very beginning and sometimes a slight cramping when getting up and down.. but that is more common with a second or third baby. Many women have slight lower back pain that starts around the 4th week. just in time for testing. Sickness and or headaches usually do not start until week 6 or 7. the best advice is to only use a 7 day yeast infection treatment.. the 1 and 3 day treatments are tooo strong if you are pregnant. And be patient in testing. Waiting until you actually miss a period is the only way a preg test is more than 80% accurate."

Gracie replied: "Well yeast infections aren't indicative of pregnancy. It's true they're more common during pregnancy, but it's possible to be pregnant and never have one. the reason they're more common is b/c of hormonal imbalances in your body. they're most common in the 2nd trimester. it's probably too soon for pregnancy to be causing a yeast infection if you are indeed pregnant. even if it is b/c of being pregnant, you can't determine whether or not your pregnant based on a yeast infection. get a pregnancy test. if it's been twelve days, then one of those that give you an answer after 5 days should certainly give you an answer to that. if it's positive, go to your doctor and get a blood test to be certain."

Is there evidence that pregnancy causes the mother to develop an autoimmune disease? My grandmother and a cousin both developed severe rheumatic autoimmune diseases after pregnancy, when being previously fine before pregnancy. I have not been able to find any additional evidence of pregnancy causing an autoimmune disease to develop, but am wondering if anyone knows of a link between the two, either clinical or anecdotal. I realize that pregnancy has effects on women who already have autoimmune diseases, but am trying to weigh the risks of developing an illness from being pregnant. Any additional information would be very helpful. Thank you!

rancho replied: "looks like you have a familial idiopathic history of rheumatism. you'll have to weigh the risks/benefits in your own mind. there IS a definite chance you could develop it; however, maybe it would be worth it to you to bring a child into this world."

Teresa replied: "What happens is that the disease is not active, but there, and flares after the delivery. Autoimmune diseases are "triggered" and often dormant. I have RA. It was triggered by strep throat at age 27. I probably got it at about age 23, when it was assumed I had carpal tunnels from being a pastry chef. Turns out, after having the electrical test for carpal tunnels, I didn't have carpal tunnels. I was experiencing the beginning of my RA those years back, without the full-blown symptoms I had once the strep throat came along. Now I have the full-blown RA. Keep in mind that giving birth is a traumatic event to your body and trauma can cause an autoimmune disease. People have been triggered into RA by car accidents, believe it or not."

bad speller replied: "their is no ave tense to confirm of that,in fact pregnancy ,Chang you buddy in SAM whey but privet for any harm com to the mother"

How accurate is a pregnancy blood test 7 to 8 days after conception? My friend had a blood pregnancy test done 7 to 8 days after possible conception and the result came back negative. She is still having pregnancy symptoms. She asked the lady who gave her the results and the lady said that the test should not be done until atleast 10 days after conception to be most accurate. How accurate is a pregnancy blood test 7 to 8 days after conception? Thanks in advance!

Acelin Gwen arriving Feb '09 replied: "if the nurse said to wait 10 days, your friend should have waited 10 days...."

tidgie10211982 replied: "You don't even have pregnancy symptoms 8 days after conception. She's probably just scared that she might be and tricking her body into thinking she is."

kaylaxkitten replied: "not accurate at all, implantation usually occurs around 7 or 8 days past ovulation, and a range from 5-12 days past ovulation, and then it takes a couple days for the hCG (pregnancy hormone) to be released into the blood...but this means that she would also not be feeling pregnancy symptoms either becuase its the hCG that causes them....otherwise it would be PMS....she should wait until her expected period to test, and should do a home test first..."

shell_pl2 replied: "I was told that a blood test can be done 9 days after conception and a urine test not until after the first missed period. I would definetly do a retest."

Dolly replied: "Mine showed results 5 days after I missed my period. Try the EPT digital or the Clear Blue Digital=Always accurate if done at the right time."

What is a chemical pregnancy and how does it work? I took an at home pregnancy test last week and tested positive, but then had my period a few days later. I would have conceived between September 20th and 24th, and my period came 6 days ago. I started reading up on this and found a lot of questions about chemical pregnancies. How do they happen? And how long will the pregnancy hormone stay in my system if the egg has already been flushed out? I can't get into my gyno until next week and I need to know what's going on now.

Dee S replied: "A "chemical pregnancy" is just another term for an early miscarriage. Many times this happens without the woman even knowing she is pregnant. Usually the reason for this is because of abnormalities with the developing fetus or due to the embryo not implanting properly within the womb lining itself. Your doctor will probably advise you to wait for 2 - 3 months before trying again to conceive as it can take a while for your hormone level to return to its normal level. Usually it takes longer if you miscarry further along. So given the fact that you were only a few weeks along it should only be a week or two. Try not to worry.... it is perfectly normal and happens more often than a lot of people realise as it often occurs very early on after conception and most people assume it is their period but a little late. I have had this happen myself and have gone on to have a perfectly healthy baby since then so it does not mean that anything is wrong with you. Hope this helps and good luck =)"

What are the symptoms of a tubal pregnancy? A friend of mine has not had her period for over three months. She tests every two weeks and the pregnancy results always come back negative. However, she is concerned that she might have a tubal pregnancy, which-from what I hear-are not shown on a pregnancy test-false readings. She hasn't any signs or anything. However, she does not have insurance and does not want to go to the doctor or hospital unless if she has too-if she has a tubal pregnancy she knows this must be taken care of immediately since this is life-threatening. I neek to know the signs so she and I can be aware of them. Is there a gradual showing of symptoms or do they come at once? Also, how long after conception do these symptoms appear?

mommyofboys replied: "If it is tubal, she will have a lot of pain. if she does not have insurance (and lives in the U.S.), Planned Parenthood will see her for free. Good Luck!"

jennifer replied: "she wold prbley know if she had a tubal pregnancy, its usually very painful but every woman is different. You get pain in one side , fever, sometimes shoulder pain, nausea. If she thinks its tubal she should go to the er. It doesnt sound like it though"

you wish you knew me replied: "you dont need insurance to go to a planned parenthood.. they are the best bet if you are really worried... i know it sounds like a teenage "i dont want my parents to know" kind of thing to do.. but they ARE doctors.. and can help without insurance.. they just charge a flat fee and thats it..and some things are free depending on age, and situation... good luck.."

Jill B replied: "With a tubal, there would be intense pain, and by 3 months she would have had symptoms because the size of the baby at this point would have ruptured her fallopian tube. So I seriously doubt it is a tubal pregnancy. Also, you are incorrect that an ectopic pregnancy doesn't show up on a pregnancy test. It does. The embryo is developing and therefore the pregnancy hormone HCG will be present. I do not think your friend is pregnant. But if she hasn't had a period in three months when she has otherwise been regular, she needs to go to the doctor, insurance or no. She could have an STD or other illness that has affected her cycles."

shannon t replied: "if your friend had a tubal pregnancy, she would be in alot of pain. they symptons appear a couple of weeks after concieving as the featus grows and the fillopeon tube is very small and not a lot of room for growth."

Robert N replied: "worse case scenario , tube breaks and bleeds until she passes out when she stands-up . then you know for sure . get her to the emergency room ASAP. my wife had a tubal pregnancy."

How often does home pregnancy test have a false positive turnout? I took a home pregnancy test last week and I put it flat on the counter and it was negative for about a minute and then I walked away and forgot about it. So when I came back in later that evening it was positive. I took another one today and it was negative, so the question is how often does this happen? The whole false positive thing?
